Chapter 234: The Fight —Daughters of the Moon
Chapter 234: The Fight —Daughters of the Moon
"I’ll rid you of this world," Alcaeus’s bones cracked as his wolf responded, "And this time, and I’ll do it properly,"
He looked up to the sky, to the void Moon, and the howl that he kept out almost split the night.
The sound rolled from his chest as his spine arched backwards, his bones snapping and grinding as his body began to tear itself apart from the inside. His skin split down the middle of his back, muscle peeling away as something massive forced its way through.
Gold-red light exploded outward as Alcaeus transformed mid-laughter.
His Alpha demon wolf erupted into existence in a storm of bone and fire, its form towering far beyond any wolf that had ever walked this earth. His frame was enormous, and his shoulders crowned with jagged horns of molten black and gold. His fur burned like living darkness, and his veins were glowing beneath it as demonic power coursed freely through him.
When his paws hit the ground, the earth shattered.
He was a force that shouldn’t be reckoned with, but there were two people who were more than ready to take him on.
Zeke snarled low in his throat, his teeth lengthening as heat also flooded his veins. His demon surged forward eagerly, clawing for release.
"This is getting ugly," He growled.
Zevon’s shadows recoiled instinctively from Alcaeus’s presence, then coiled tighter around him defensively instead. It sharpened, darkened and prepared itself for what was in front of them.
Then Theo moved. She stepped forward into the wake of Alcaeus’s transformation, silver light and black corruption bleeding through her skin at once. Her eyes, which were both dark before, seemed to have changed. One was void-black and the other was silver.
Seraphina was still screaming and fighting inside her. It didn’t matter how many times she was forced back down, she always stood up. She was trying to pin down the demon, trying to rip open from her, and that was why one eye had turned silver.
Shadows exploded outward as he lunged for her and closed the distance in a blink, a blade forming in his hand from pure darkness. Theo reacted instantly, her claws flashing as she turned, but Zevon was faster.
The blade sank deep into her abdomen, and silver light erupted violently as Seraphina surged forward in agony and fury. Theo screamed, her body arching as the wolf inside her clawed upward, snapping even more against the demon’s control.
Zevon grabbed her by the throat and slammed her back against a shattered tree with the blade still buried in her.
"LOOK AT ME," he roared into her face.
The demon snarled, black blood and silver pouring from the wound as she thrashed, "You think pain scares me?"
"I don’t care about you," Zevon snarled back as his shadows writhed wildly now. They were reacting to his emotions, and as he held her, cold seeped into her skin, "I’m talking to her!"
For a split second, the silver flared brighter, and Zevon pressed his forehead to hers. His voice broke raw through his rage as he spoke, "I KNOW YOU ARE STILL IN THERE," He shouted, "I don’t want to believe you’re gone completely. You could never be erased, Venom. You fought against death once and you won! I know you can do it again! Come back to us! Please!"
The demon shrieked like she was being burned, and her claws raked across his chest as she forced herself back. The blade ripped free and he was hurled across the clearing.
Zevon crashed through stone and bark, but the shadows caught him just before he hit the ground.
Zeke looked up at Alcaeus and knew there was no use holding back now. His transformation was violent and instant as his own demon wolf tore free of his skin in a burst of red heat and black flame. His bones stretched, snapped and reformed as his massive red wolf slammed into existence.
His fur burned crimson, while his eyes glowed molten gold-red. Demonic markings scorched themselves into his hide as he let out a roar that shook the battlefield.
Then, he launched himself at Alcaeus.
The collision between them was catastrophic as Alpha demon met demon wolf in an explosion of force that flattened everything within a hundred feet. Trees were ripped out by the roots, while wolves and demons were thrown like broken dolls.
Alcaeus snapped at Zeke’s throat, his jaws lined with glowing fangs, but Zeke twisted mid-air and sank his teeth into Alcaeus’s shoulder, ripping flesh free.
Black fire sprayed from the cut as Alcaeus roared in fury and slammed Zeke into the ground, his claws carving trenches through the earth as he dragged him down.
Zeke kicked free and leapt again, tearing into Alcaeus with savage precision.
Meanwhile, Theo had recovered. Her body twisted unnaturally as Seraphina surged again, silver fur tearing through skin before being crushed back down.
The demon screamed, then laughed, then screamed again.
Zevon rose slowly from the wreckage, the shadows thickening around him until they took shape.
And then, Zevon’s wolf emerged next.
His own wolf didn’t rip out of him like the rest, instead, a massive, black-blue wolf formed beside him, its eyes glowing with endless depth as shadows dripped from its fangs like liquid night.
Erebos breathed through it.
Zevon mounted the wolf in a single fluid motion, and looked at his brother, "Zeke,"
"I know," Zeke growled back, locked in combat with Alcaeus, "Take her."
Zevon did not hesitate anymore. He and his wolf launched at Theo together.
Claws met shadows, and silver met void. Theo fought like she was something born for slaughter, but Zevon matched her blow for blow, his shadows binding her limbs, tearing into her flesh, and forcing Seraphina closer to the surface with every strike.
"You feel her," Zevon snarled as he slammed her to the ground, "You cannot erase her,"
Theo screamed again, her body convulsing violently as silver light exploded outward, knocking Zevon back.
She rose unsteadily, blood pouring freely now, while her form flickered between demon and wolf as Seraphina fought harder than ever.
Around them, the war worsened.
The Veil was tearing wider as lesser demons poured through in waves, ripping wolves apart with claws and teeth. More wolves fell, and the Alphas screamed orders that were drowned out by the chaos.
Zeke and Zevon were too occupied and too locked and focused in battle with the larger monsters.
Then a second howl came.
It didn’t come from the battlefield, but somewhere closer. The scent of something feminine drifted into the battlefield right before female voices followed.
Dozens of them.
The demons turned just in time to see them jump into the battlefield in a line of wolves that charged without hesitation.
At the very front of the line was Ava.
Her eyes burned with ruthless clarity as she raised her claws, her eyes glowing dangerously. Behind her, the students of the Luna Academy surged forward, shifting mid-run. Brown, grey and black wolves slammed into demon ranks with ferocious precision.
They were no fear or hesitation in their eyes as they rushed in in large numbers, tearing through the demons.
Hope hit everyone like lightning.
Every wolf that was still alive had their jaws dropping, including Leonard and Vincent, who looked like their eyes were about to fall out.
Women in battle? It was unheard of. It was unbelievable. How?!
Alcaeus turned, surprise flashing briefly across his monstrous face.
The women carved through the lesser demons with brutal efficiency, forming defensive lines around fallen packs. They dragged wounded wolves to safety, and struck with coordinated fury that shattered centuries of dismissal in a single charge.
Ava’s howl rang out again, "We HOLD," She roared, "FOR THE ONES STILL FIGHTING."
Zeke tore into Alcaeus once more with renewed fury blazing through him. Zevon turned back to demon Theo, his shadows flaring brighter than ever.
"This isn’t over," He growled.
